Bedsores, also called pressure sores or ulcers, are lesions of the skin and underlying tissues caused by the prolonged compression of a soft tissue (skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscle) between an underlying bone protrusion, in depth, and an external surface of support.
Treatment
The main objectives of the treatment are:
• The alleviation of compression on the sores
• Adequate cleaning and dressing of the wounds
• Infection control
• An appropriate diet.
Sometimes, surgery is needed to close large lesions.
Post-surgical wounds, or postoperative wounds, can occur after surgery. Being carried out under aseptic conditions, in most cases they heal within a defined time interval without complications.
Treatment
The complete restoration of the tissue functions is achieved by following a few precautions:
• Keep the wound bed clean;
• Reduce the microbial load with specific devices;
• Protect the edges of the wound;
• Maintain the right degree of humidity in the wound also through the use of advanced dressings.
A burn is, by definition, a more or less extensive lesion of the skin, and sometimes of the underlying tissues, caused by a thermal, physical or chemical agent. The possible causes are therefore numerous and heterogeneous, just as the extent of the damage caused by them is different.
Treatment
The part of the burned skin can be characterized by redness (erythema), heat, pain, swelling (oedema) and skin dryness in the most superficial burns up to the underlying tissues in the most severe cases. The complete restoration of the tissue functions is achieved by following a few precautions:
• Gently cleanse the wound bed;
• Reduce the microbial load with specific devices
• Maintain the right degree of humidity in the wound also through the use of advanced dressings.
